Idiots on the police camera TV shows?

Why do the people always consent to the searches when they know they have something illegal in the car, AND when it looks like a routine stop( IE speeding etc...)?

No clue. No one has ever denied me consent.

Maybe they think saying "no" will cause the officer to think there's something in the car and he will search anyways.
Maybe they think the officer won't search if they say "yes".

I have only been asked twice personally, and coming from a military police family( my dad) I always politely refuse, even though I know I don't have anything in the car, unless they have a warrant to search( that has never happened to me)...

I would normally ask for consent, even when I didn't need any...

What exactly does the military family have anything to do with giving consent ? Other than they are use to waiting ( hurry up and wait) because that's what will happen you will wait until I have a K-9 come out and do a free air sniff . Just saying
50yr old female, traffic stop, possession of meth
Consent to search her purse was verbally obtained by her .
    Conversation goes like this,

Me: M'am is this your purse? Her: yes.
Me: Is this your wallet? Her: yes.
Me: Is this your change purse? Her: yes.
Me: Is this your blue cloth bag? Her: yes.
Me: Is this your Meth? Her: NO.

Well, growing up, and when I first got my license, my dad told me you don't have to automatically give consent without probably cause, so if you do get pulled over, don't act suspicious and give a reason that someone would WANT to search in the first place...

I see, but i don't think that has to do with being in a military family a lot of non military families are the same way.
The real deal about it is this tho, if you have nothing to hide why say no? I'm getting paid by the hour. I get paid the same if its spent talking to you on the side of the road or if I'm getting a cat out of the tree. If you have nothing (and no reason for us to think you do ) if we do search it will not last long. Say no I ask why we have a conversation about how its your right to say no, I call for K-9 they slowly go around your car now that 15 min. looksy
in your car is now 10 min for a conversation on rights 20 min for the wait on K-9 15 min.
for the K-9 work 10 min. for me to slowly write your ticket for what ever reason I pulled you over for. About an hour or 15 min.

... or you could simply not do anything illegal or have anything illegal in your car, that might help more than having to not "act suspicious." I've managed to live my whole life without having a cop want to search my vehicle (same is true for everyone I know well), the fact you've been asked twice seems... interesting, to say the least.
