Speed Detection - 2 circles mounted on rear window of police car

Drive to Vegas for girlfriends birthday:

I was traveling in the middle lane (3 lanes) amongst ~20 cars on the 15N a little faster than I should have been. I was driving fairly fast (~85) the flow of traffic was ~80-85. As I was driving I could see a couple of police cars about 100 yards ahead in the hard shoulder so I put the breaks on and slowed down to 70. All of a sudden the 2 police cars pulled out and followed me and another driver who was also driving at quciker than the traffic flow.

The police officer was professional and told me how fast I was going before asking me how fast I thought I went. I was immediately issued a ticket for driving at 90 and he informed me that I could appeal the ticket via mail or through a court appearance (my first ever ticket). When I informed the officer I was driving at 70 he said that I was driving 90 and then slowed down before passing. He then went on to explain that the 2 white circles in his rear window are what detected my speed, I had no qualms as I knew the process for appeal was via court.

What I would like to know is how did the radar pick me out in a group of cars in bright sunlight when I was changing lane? Is this new technology and how does it work?

    Regards,

    Rich

Take it to court and the Officer will come in on his day off and explain in better detail.

    Rich,

    A few thinsg to consider:

    1) By the time you see the cop, he/she already has your speed on ther radar gun.

    2) Radar guns can target a specific car very easily.

    3) Vehicle speedometers have been known and are very likely not true to speed. Several things you do to your car can also make it inaccurate such as change tire size, add accesories that create drag, etc.... Even if it is off, it is not a reason for the ticket to be dismissed. Its yoru responsibility to keep your vehicle up to date.

    4) Fact you slowed down measn nothing.

    5) You admit you were doing "about" 85. That means you were not sure and could have been doing 87 or 88. You admit you were speeding. Pay teh fine and move on. its a ticket, not a death sentence. You were wrong and got caught. What grounds do you have for a defense that you were not speeding?
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

You admit to " 85 " and got tagged at 90. No sympathy. Your choice to keep up with the flow is not an excuse to speed. It is just self-justification to speed.

    Next driver please.

He didn't say that he was keeping up, he said he was going slightly faster. It is pretty easy to tell which vehicle is gaining on others, and I don't even do traffic.

Sounds like keeping up to me.

You admitted to speeding. Accept responsibility and move on.

You happended to see the police cars about "100 yards" ahead. Rest assured they already had your speed, and were just waiting for you to get there for the stop. Slowing down AFTER you see the police car is wayyyyy too late.

Do the speed limit and you don't have to worry about it.

Without seeing what you are talking about I would guess what he was pointing out was the RADAR antenna.
This isn't Burger King, you are not going to get it your way.
