Any idea what the possible/probable penalty would be? What would make it a felony? Does a felony conviction automatically mean jail time...eventhough I was only 15 at the time? Or can I do community service or something instead? I heard that sometimes it's possible to avoid a permanent record if it's a first offense. Is that true?

I live in Connecticut and am flying into New York. I'm 20 now.

I get what you are all saying about turning myself in. Can't really expect cops to tell me otherwise, lol.

That's the same advice I would give a friend or relative too - whether I was a cop or not.

But honestly, isn't it a bit unrealistic to expect someone to just turn themselves in?

IME, every generation has been getting less and less responsible. Quite frankly, yours sucks and you're why.

The consequences for me and my future could be huge. As I said, I'm not that same person anymore. I'm in college, working on getting an education, hopefully get a decent job one day. All that would go to ****s if I ended up with a criminal record.

As been pointed out already - you should have thought of that prior.

They asked on my college application if I had been convicted of any crime which I wasn't at the time but who knows if they could still expel me if I'm convicted later.

Depends on the crime and your college's rules/regulations.

Don't think anybody would hire me with that kind of record either. Just seems like if I turn myself in my future will be permanetly ruined and that's a steep price to pay for something I did as a kid don't you think?
Why do I get the impression that you did this "something(S)" only a year or two ago, when you were over 18?

No Sir. I was 15, a freshman in high school, trying to fit in with the wrong group of kids, bla bla bla... I'm 20 now.

I wouldn't exactly call it "on the run". I did the graffiti probably over a 2- or 3-month period my freshman year. I didn't get caught, stopped doing it, and didn't really worry much about it anymore after a while. Still am reminded of it when I happen to see one of the couple of tags that were never removed but I never really gave it much thought again...until now that my buddy told me the cops were asking for me.

Can anybody answer my questions about the possible penalties please?

Infraction, misdemeanor, felony. Look up the possible penaties for each in your local statutes/codes. You're not going to get anything anymore specific because you refuse to give ALL the facts.
