    Stolen SUV

I have a couple of questions I need help with. My son is divorced and has custody of his children. His ex-wife is a deadbeat mom, rarely sees her children and does not help support them; she's over 5,000.00 behind in child support. My grandchildren have been with her and her live in boyfriend when they have gone to stores and stolen things. Neither the mother nor the boyfriend has a job. A few months ago my grand daughter told us when their mother picked them up that she had a backpack full of coins and a bunch of one dollar bills with rubber bands around them, my grand daughter was told to help count the money before they went to "Coin Star" to cash it all in. I did a background check on the boyfriend and he has a pretty bad record and has been in prison for stealing from coin operated machines and several other things. Now the two have shown up in a fairly new Tahoe with 2 different stories as to how they got it, neither story makes any sense. I got the tag number off the SUV but I can't find anything on it. I use publicdata.com and I can pull up my cars and anybody else’s car tag and the owners name comes up, but not on this Tahoe. How can I find out if their driving a stolen car? Also the boyfriend told my grand daughter twice that her mother is on "dope". He told her she is shooting up with needles. My grand daughter is only 12 and my son will not allow the kids to go see their mother now. What happens if she shows up and wants to try and take them for a visit? They are divorced and were suppose to do the 50-50 custody thing but it didn't turn out that way. Would the police let her take the kids because the divorce papers say joint custody or would they listen to what all my grand daughter says and realize it’s not a safe environment for children? We live in Texas and this couple travels down to San Antonio alot also Oklahoma and Alabama. Not sure how unemployeed people manage to take these trips, maybe it's on somebody else's "dime"? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If the custody papers say that she gets joint custody then that's the way it is. If your son feels that the environment isn't safe, he should have already gone back to the court and tried to get the custody order modified. There's no way for you to confirm whether or not the car is stolen, as you can't access data in NCIC and no police department will provide that to you.

In PA , the police do not enforce custody orders. PERIOD. but if someone chooses to violate one AND the judge orders us to go haul them in .....

You said that he has custody and later you said it is supposed to be 50/50. Which is it ?

If she is in arrears , can he file a formal complaint to have a bench warrant issued for her ?

I would be suprised if the tag isn't illegal. Probably got it off a junker or ?

You would need the VIN to know for sure if the tahoe is stolen and I am not sure that the publicdata site would know this.

If you have reasonable belief that the children are in danger at their mother's , call CPS and let them investigate.

Well, I doubt publicdata.com is going to give you the same information that we have in our data base (NCIC/TCIC). Contact your local law enforcement regarding all the information you listed. They will be able to investigate the suspicious circumstances you outlined above, they may have an open case on a coin machine burglary and you may be able to provide the lead they are looking for. If they are driving around in a car that has fake plates on it, it would not take long before they were stopped (if I run a plate that comes back "no record", I would without a doubt pull them over to investigate). Contact CPS, and the attorney y'all had working on the divorce as well. What city/county are in? Just curious, I work for an agency near San Antonio. You need to find the paperwork/court order that outlines the child custody. If your side has full custody then all you need to show the police the court order and she cannot take the kids. If we feel the child is going to be in an unsafe environment we call CPS and have an on call case worker come assist.

As Delta mentioned, the child custody order needs to be modified. The father can present any evidence to demonstrate that the children are not in a safe environment with the mother and the judge can modify the custody arrangements. As far as the daughter's info on the coins and money, I would provide tips to the area police department. If there have been burglaries (or robberies), they will likely follow any tips they receive, especially if the mother and boyfriend have criminal histories like you've indicated.

We live in Dallas County so does the ex-wife and boyfriend. The divorce was done in Fort Worth and the papers say joint custody. My son is the Custodial Parent and the ex was ordered to pay child support through the Attorney General. The kids do not want to go with their mother, my grand daughter locked herself in the bathroom crying to avoid talking to her on the phone yesterday. The ex is a past druggie and the boyfriend has been arrested for selling meth. They seem to travel to San Antonio so if you have stolen white Tahoe's maybe they have it! Is it possible for me to give you the tag number and you see if it belongs to a white Chevy Tahoe? They are thieves and liars, I'm 100% sure.

Like the others have said, it's all in the hands of the divorce court. Police have no jurisdiction or authority in matters like this. We can't run plates for you, but you can probably go to Texas DMV and they call tell you who the registered owner is. It may cost a small fee, I dunno.

Your son needs to get with his lawyer and work this out ASAP.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine
