Can a cop randomly ask for your I.d?

I am 19 years old and I live in Jacksonville Florida, i started frequently going out at night with friends
around 1:00-5:00pm and in the pass week I've been randomly asked for my I.D 3times while walking. one of the officers stated that the reason he stopped me was because there's a curfew and that i looked
young my question is am i required to give my I.D to a Officer if he ask?

If you are walking in the middle of the afternoon, (1300-1700 hours) as you say, what would a curfew have to do with it? Is the curfew in your town NOON?

You are not required to carry ID with you in many states if you are not driving. But if the police have reasonable suspicion that a crime may be occurring (and that you may know something about it), they can stop and detain you while they investigate. You refusing to cooperate will only extend that detention longer. You can exercise your rights, but that will not automatically require the officer to stop doing his or her job.

Yes, a cop can ask you for your ID.

Under certain circumstances you can be arrested if you don't ID yourself. Sometimes it is not required and he is just asking.

Generally it is a good idea to ID yourself if a cop asks. If you feel you really don't have to, be willing to call someone to post bond if it one of the situations when it is required.

I doubt it's just random. Think about what you and your friends are doing and how you're dressed. If you look like you're playing gangster, you're a lot more apt to be asked for ID than if you're sitting reading a book. Contrary to popular belief in some circles, cops have more to do than just annoy you.

Can we randomly walk up to people and ask for ID? Yes, we can ask. If it truly is an officer randomly walking up to you and asking for your ID, can you refuse? Yes

However, if we do have a reason to ask for the ID, but YOU think its random and refuse, can you be arrested? Yes

Better to just cooperate in case it's the second of those situations.

That's what I'm thinking. If he's 19, it probably means he looks 16, in which the officers who spot him are asking for ID to verify he's not under 18 yrs old and violating curfew (if it's between 1am and 5am). This can happen all day long.

As far as other times, like my counterparts have mentioned, we can approach and ask you for your ID. At this point it's consensual. If you refuse to give it up and we DEMAND it, this means the officer has articulable RS to stop, detain, and ID you. If the officer doesn't have RS, then he can't force you to hand it over. With that said, if you look underage during curfew hours, that's plenty of RS.
