    really upset for my wife...

Ok here is the situation. My wife was called for the nypd police about 5 years ago and decided not to do it at the time. She was just sent a letter again for a history questionnaire and then was told she will be called for a medical. My wife went to catholic school and graduated from a four year school. We have known each other for about 12 years. Well about 15 years ago( I was 18) I was involved with the wrong crown and wound up getting 2 felonies and serving a year in jail. By the way my father is a retired NYC cop.I come from a real good family and am a good person but just made some bad choices. Those bad days are long gone and I have had a good job for the last 11 years and would never even think about breaking the law. The thing is we were not married when she was called the first time but now she shares my last name and lives with me. My father is not exactly sure how it works( he is 30 years removed from the force) but I am assuming they will o a backroubd check on me and automitically disqualify her. She is really upset about this and I feel horrible. Is this how it will work? Thanks very very much for any input

I don't know, why? I did also post this in the background section. Has this question been asked on here before? I am actually in Saratoga Springs with my dad and my wife called me about this today(upset) and I then searched for forums to try to get feedback. Thanks

Do you have the right to vote in NY? Pistol permit?

Don't know if you know what it is but I actually applied for a certificate from disabilities a few years ago. I had to write to the probation department. I was approved.... so I can( dont need to) now apply for a handgun, vote etc. i think it limits the amount seen when they do a background check . I did it because my job sometimes gas me go to places where I need security clearance. My charge were criminal sale of a controlled substance(twice) and assault( bar fight). There are two felonies on my record. I know it has no bearing on the situation I posted but that was then and I am totally different person...actually a really nice guy with good morals and values. will they run my name when my wife goes through the process? I can't believe I going to be to blame for this, I feel like such shiiiit.she is not mad at me at all...she is just very upset. Thanks very much ..oh I served about 8 months in riverhead....the worst time in me and my families life!!!

I believe G35 was pointing to the fact you posted two (2) separate threads asking exactly the same thing (I closed the other thread), which is a no-no around here.

Sorry to be a pia. Is there anyway to have her not associated with me...besides divorce... I guess she should fill the paperwork out and see what happens but I'm sure they will see she is married to me. Thanks

I'm sure there is going to be a place on the application where she will have to list your arrest history. Just have her be truthful on the application and be ready with answers when the background investigator visits or questions her and/or you. There really is no way of her disassociating herself from you because you two are married.
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

She is filling out the questionairre now and it asks if her spouse was ever arrested. She is going to be truthful and I m going o write a letter from myself and accompany it with her questionnaire. What if a spouse never told their significant other they were arrested? Thanks

If you can have a handgun and vote.....she is not automatically DQ. They tool at the totality of the picture. The assaults are not the problem! Its the CPSC that is! I know you have your CoD, and fifteen years time from it. Plus it was before you were married.

She is going to need to "sell" you at her oral psych. How you were a screw-up, admit it, did time, and fixed your life and been problem free since. If you are in a job that has random drug testing now, that would be beneficial for her to mention. If not, no biggie...but it wouldl have helped. She is going to have to articulate how stable you are.

It will rest in the hands of the psych who will tell APD if they think you are a potential problem for her.

Thanks a lot Joey for the advice. By meeting my you would never have the slightest idea that I had that past 16+ years ago. I really am a very good person. I am completely aware of right and wrong and always try to do the right thing in life. I have been part of NY Cares for 10 years now volunteering here and there. I have a good heart ... Thanks again
