NCIC showed a record for him and dad. Local and state PD notified and warned before of potential trouble we might encounter and to be ready. Father came out of the house and charged at us (30 yeards away) with the machete. My partner, never draws and runs away, as in down the driveway and down the road. I am left alone dealing with it, which I did.

I agree with Ispbear. There is no way that, if arrested, I would be on any forum explaining my case. He has an attorney why jeopardize your case by writing something down on a public forum? He is either extremely new to the field on not in the ballpark at all.

I'll go with the Federal Security Guard or a FLEO who has EXTREMELY limited authority and has never dealt with people on the street.

I agree, this sounds really weird.

For my agency (and I'm assuming most FLEO) we could stop if there was a felony or violent misdemeanor committed in our presence where the subject would either have gotten away before local authorities could apprehend them or would have been in the position to harm/continue to harm someone (big time truncating and paraphrasing on this one).

That being said, I think just about every Fed would agree that unless someone was hurt by the bottle throw and/or they continued to throw things with the potential to greatly harm someone before local authorities could get there - it would be best to wait for the local authorities than try to sweat out a review of your actions by desk-management.

@Joey - So the Fed didn't just take off to get a safer distance....he abandoned you and high-tailed it?!?!? WTF!??!

He should have called the locals and at least had an incident report. He tried to brush it under the table, which never works out in your favor. If the locals didn't want to respond or take a report, fine. At least he would have had done the right thing. When you don't report something, it will always be assumed that you didn't do the right thing.

The fact he was arrested by the locals bothers me. I don't know about everywhere else, but we're pretty reluctant to arrest a federal LEO for something like that unless he was way out of line. We would be more likely to write it up and send it to his superiors if we just thought he was just being a little overreactive and let them deal with it. It would be a big leap to arrest.

Of course, there they would have probably shot at the car, not thrown a bottle at it. Nor would I doubt he would have been arrested.

Yup!!! Ran like *&^%$! While at the same time I see the supect crawl out of the trailer window and run into the woods! I was pulling my trigger as he dropped the knife. He still refused other verbal commands so he got some liquid fire and impact complaince as I cuffed him myself. State PD came and assited when I called and arrested the guy for us. My partner was .20 of a mile down teh road at a strangers house using teh phone when it was all settled calling our office, which by the way was 7 hours away! Even the Troopers were shocked.

He rode back to the city with me the next day and we never spoke a word. He got a '2' on his review that year. He is still there riding a desk.

That's what is sticking with me as well; unless there's bad blood between the local authorities and the Feds in that area for some reason, it seems like there must be more to it.

I wouldn't have talked to the dude either. "2" my butt, he needed a pink slip.

    +1

In my agency, if we use any intermediate weapon or firearm, even merely displaying constitutes as using it, then we report it up the chain. He didn't notify the locals or his own chain of command? Seems fishy. Just because there were multiple teens isn't enough for me to break leather. But, I know in some more urban environments weapons are out a little more often and routine. Especially after dark, and any where near Cabrini Green.

If there was damage to his POV then he should of called the locals, if anything, to simply protect himself. But maybe he chose not to get anyone else involved after pistol whipping the kids and scaring the bejesus out of them.....
