Normally a misdemeanor and will attract a lot of attention. You shouldn't drive the vehicle without it. In some states the LEO may tow it.

Contact your DMV and get another. Also report the one lost to the police. Someone might find it and use it on a get away car and the police will be looking for you. But the cost of a new plate will no doubt be less than the cumulative fines.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

I agree with above. If someone puts that plate on a car a breaks the law and your plate is given you are going to have to answer why you did not report it lost or stolen and then prove you didn't do the crime. Who needs that crap when you can just get another one. I have enclosed some info.

    License Plates in Louisiana
LOST OR STOLEN LICENSE PLATES - As soon as license plates are lost, stolen or illegible they must be replaced.

In order to replace your plates you must:

    •Visit your local OMV office.
•Present proper forms of ID and registration card.
•Hand in any remaining license plates.
•Fill in an application for replacement plates.
•Pay the license plate replacement fees of $10 plus $8 processing fee.
