- How accessible is the database of stolen items?
What database? There is no database kept.
Would it be available to the PD in the borough, whole city, whole state, whole tri-state region?
If you filed a 61 with the NYPD, only those who look at it. If you had certain high value items, and they had a serial number, or a gun, they are entered in NCIC and any cop can see them if they run the serial number.
-
Does each PD have their own team to check out local pawn shops? Or is there a designated PD within a region that is responsible for doing that?
No. And many don't check. They NYPD has a Burglar
y Apprehension Team, who will check local pawn shops in teh are for your stuff. It it isn't there, they don't look anywhere else and nobody else will look for it.
- If a thief is arrested, would a house search be part of the protocol? That way, more stolen items can be potentially recovered??
Did the Evidence Collection Team come? If so, did they get anything? If not, the chances of any arrest or recovery is slim to none, and none just got hit by a bus. Not trying to be rude, but most folks who steal in NYC do not sell to pawnshops. They sell it to their perp friends or head to the projects.
- I obviously don't hold out much hope for recovery, but I am still curious... What is the recovery rate?
See above.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.
