I'd have to double check statutes, but since it's opens up by itself, even past a certain point, it might cause you issues. I'd recommend just getting a small, fold out, pocket knife. The kind you have to open up all yourself.

bryan00989, first of all, Welcome to RP from the Florida Panhandle! Usually we ask our newest members to go to the New Member Introductions forum and post a thread telling us a bit about themselves because coming into our internet home and peppering us with questions right off the bat is considered bad form.

And I too would have to check the statutes, but I agree with cntryboy above, you'd probably be better off just getting a normal, non-self opening knife.

Sorry guys, didn't know I should do that first. I know it's not classified as a switchblade since it only opens the rest of the way after you move the blade yourself until it opens the rest. I've talked to a few cops around here but all they said was anything under four inches really, except switchblades. I just didn't know if there was any little details they forgot.

Just for what ever I might need it for. The knife is one of mans most basic tools, so why not you know? It's a bad area also, could be used for self-defense if you really needed it to. Although thats not the sole reason for carrying it. I'm not sure if that link up there will work if you guys copy and paste it in the address bar, but it shows pictures of it is it helps any.

Whenever someone buys a " tool " and indicates that it may be used for self defense ( especially when they are concerned about the blade length) , I become concerned how they MIGHT use it.

You have aspirations to get into Law Enforcement. Do you have ANY REAL training in self defense ? Do you have any REAL training in using a knife ?

You can easily use your knife for a situation that you feel warrants self defense and cause a significant injury that can lead to criminal charges AGAINST you if you don't do it 100% right. You can also have your knife taken from you and used agaisnt you.

My advice is to look into getting a NON-LETHAL yet effective form of self defense like pepper foam.

Also , use your head in where and when you go places. You can do a LOT for yourself by simply not going to certain areas of your town at all and others depending on the time of day. Don't " insert " yourself into a potientially harmful area and have a false sense of security because you now have a tool/weapon.

This is the knife description from the website. A $24.99 knife from Lowe's this ISN'T.

The Flash II has got to be one of the coolest knives we’ve ever seen. Forget its wicked-quick blade access, that it handles like a race car on rails, or that it locks up like Alcatraz. It just looks and feels extraordinary. The Flash family of knives feature SOG Assisted Technology™ (S.A.T.), which employs a powerful piston lock that is easily released with a sliding button.

The Flash II (Straight edge) comes standard with glass-reinforced nylon (GRN) handle and straight edge, Satin finish blade. All Flash knives come standard with SOG’s patent pending, reversible bayonet mounted clip that ensures the lowest, most discreet carry possible. We also had the foresight to incorporate an additional safety lock that gives added security when the blade is closed.

Oh I know, just in a situation where you can't get away. But that's not the only reason I carry it with me. I just find that it comes in handy, may not always be often, but it defiantly is useful.

You can carry whatever you legally want to , but you are all googly eyed over the SOG and semi-auto opening for me. You make an " error of judgment " with that deadly weapon and your LEO aspirations will be gone for good.

Nah I could care less about the assisted opening. I would actually prefer if it didn't have it. When I bought it I just wanted something under $50 that would last me, nothing fancy looking just something to get the job done. Thank you for all your input though it's appreciated. And I won't, I don't plan on pulling it out on anybody.
