I know there are rules for flying armed. What about being at the gate? It used to be a few years ago that armed and off-duty officers could go find an airport uniformed patrol officer and get access to the gate to greet people coming off the plane if they wished (I think they had to sign a log and show creds). The theory being that off-duty, armed officers were an asset. They aren't flying so none of the TSA "flying armed" rules are necessary.
Does anyone know if that has changed or if it is forbidden now?

Agreed. Discussing details of when LEOs can carry firearms in airports is not good OPSEC, I'm going to close this one since we don't discuss police tactics in the public forums.
