If someone is in our jurisdiction and for whatever reason, most commonly financial, cannot travel to the jurisdiction where the felony occurred, we will take the initial report and forward it to the agency having jurisdiction.
This exclusive to major felony complaints such as child molestation, sexual assault, homicide, etc. The most common ones we see come out of children making disclosures when they have moved into a new school district from out of state. We will get occasional person who wants to come forward after several years about a homicide or sexual assault.
Might add that in Arizona, the statute of limitations only begins once the crime is known to law enforcement. It does not apply to undiscovered crimes.
