Some departments don't care, others have a no tobacco policy while at work.

We have a no tobacco policy in the office and in the cruisers. Specifically , it isn't prohibited to use outside. A LOT of this had to do with smelly cruisers, fogged up windows and the worst was the brown juice stains down the drivers door of the cars.
Officers may not use tobacco while on a call either.

Not on duty. Long ago prior to police work many of us used SKOAL soaked with a shot of blackberry brandy. Those days are thankfully over though.

Well it's not really a stereotypical police question and I've seen other forums that people always bash questions like this because they think it's someone being a smart ***.
Started chewing at 19 years old, quit July 2010 29 years later. Chewed on duty off duty, fell asleep with it in my mouth. I miss it.
Our policy states that no smoking/chewing during contact with the public. It also states no spitting in trash cans in the office.
