    Just an opinion

    Hey there LEO's
I have a concealed weapons permit in CO.I usually carry my xd9sc everywhere I go(except where is not allowed)
If you were to stop me on a routine traffic violation(minor) would you rather I identified myself as a permit holder and that I'm armed at first contact.
Or would you rather I show permit and keep my mouth closed until asked?
I keep getting mixed opinions on the civilian side here so I'm asking professionals.
I try to put myself in the shoes of the LEO walking up to my car and would want him/her to be comfortable with my presence.

I'm sure you will get some different answers. I prefer an individual to let me know. Usually after I've asked for their information they will say, Sir I want to let you know I have a concealed carry permit and their is a loaded pistol in such and such location. Then let the officer ask for your permit or what ever. To me if someone lets me know they have a permit and a loaded weapon, the chance of them being a threat to me is very slim.

    My 2 cents.
Excuse me Officer, I have a stupid Question. "No problem, I've got a stupid answer for you!"

    I agree.
‎...let me stop you right there, sir. There's only two of us standing here and only one of us cares anything about what you have to say.

Excellent. I was thinking along the same lines..
If I lay all my cards out on the table right away and let him decide how to handle it..That's how I'd want it also

Thanks guys..I get a lot of concealed gun owners saying not to inform the LEO and all the 2nd amendment huggers say the same thing..I don't agree with them.

If I see a gun ( especially a handgun) within reach of the driver AND the driver has failed to mention this little fact , my officer safety skills will be displayed in a manner that the driver isn't fond of.

MAGNIFY my repsonse when it is on the drivers lap , in the center console or in his/her waistband.

It is ALWAYS a good idea to tell us even when you legally don't have to.

Usually one of the first question I ask on a traffic stop is, "Are there any weapons in vehicle?" Therefore they can tell the truth or lie. If they lie and I find out things will go south for them rather quickly.

Is there a logical reason why you would not inform police you were lawfully armed?

Only If someone had something to hide..And I don't..
Cops have a difficult enough job without having to make it more difficult.

I'll throw in my two bits....it's the same thing as I would do if I were stopped.

Before I start reaching for my wallet: Just to let you know before I start digging around in the car, I have a concealed weapons permit and I'm carrying a weapon in a holster on the right side of my belt.....

Then let the officer decide what they want to do....

Trust me, you don't want us to figure out you have a gun mid-stop. Because if I were to realize you were carrying a gun as I was talking to you, the rest of the conversation would be held with you looking down the business end of a firearm.

If you are honest from the beginning and your permit is good, there won't be any problems and we can probably BS about guns, hunting, and life.

Ask these same people if they would pull out in front of a semi-trailer even if that semi was required to stop at a stop sign but obviously was going too fast to stop??? No point being in the right when you get smashed to pieces by a semi doing 50 mph, is there?

Same theory here. LEO's are more concerned about living to the end of their shift than protecting someone's right to carry a firearm. If that person wants to present themselves as a threat, even unitentionally while protecting their rights, then that person will be dealt with as a threat until proven to be otherwise.

Simple and concise, and very well said. Needless to say, but I will any way, I agree 100% !!!

In Colorado you don't need a CCW to carry concealed in the car. Unless you are in Denver. In Denver I wouldn't say a thing as long as it is concealed and you are not exiting the vehicle. To big a hassle with their crazy home rule gun laws. Everywhere else if you want to tell me thats fine. I assume you have a weapon anyway.
