    Hit and run in Michigan

Another car hit my car while I had it parked in the street the other day. The person didn't get in touch with me in any way. I called the police, he checked around for any vehicles that could have hit mine and then gave me a police report.
I took the information to my insurance company where I have PLPD (lowest coverage) and thought I would get a $500 check. The lady behind the counter said that in order for me to receive the $500 is to find the guy who did it. I was making sure that this right and hoping that you guys might also know about this kind of thing.

Sounds like your insurance company is trying to screw you. Read your policy- every policy and company is different.

You never know how god your ( life, helalth, auto or homeowners ) insurance is until you make a claim.

Insurance companies make ( save) money by not paying out claims. Sometimes they are right and sometimes they aren't. You need to do two things....

    1. READ your policy on hit and runs.

    2. Specifically ask them why they are not covering you.

If you feel they are in error , point out in your policy where they are wrong and politely request payment. If they refuse and you feel stroing enough, tell them you are going to file a complaint with the State Insurance Commissioner.

IF you are right and they are WRONG, they will not want you to make that next call.

Insurance companies sell all kinds of policies with all kinds of exceptions and allowances. If you were in PA and had the basic insurance ( like the kind I carry on my 2001 car) it ONLY covers the other guy , not me.
