car burglary question for yous :)

just got an email from our campus cops

In the past couple of days, we've had 4 cars entered in and around the yellow zone. The yellow
zone is the residents parking lot behind Donovan Hall. All of the vehicles entered were Hondas
and radios and serveral other items were removed. All of the vehicles were reported to have been
locked and entry was gained by prying open a window. We've increased patrols in the area and are
asking for your help. Please report any suspicious activity in the parking lots to Public Safety
at 706-864-1500. Also, if you noticed anything out of the ordinary in the yellow zone on 2-4-04
or 2-5-04 please let us know either by phone or our email at publicsafety@ngcsu.edu. Mike
Stapleton Public Safety Dir./ Chief of Police

I know there are certain 'specialized' tools for car mechanics, locksmiths, etc to use that help someone gain entry into a particular make of vehicle. My question is; is there something with Hondas that allow this to happen more frequently, or you guys just maybe think its because thats all they know how to do/ have the tools for.

Most of the Hondas around here are the suped-up (think Fast and Furious) versions driven by younger people...they all have really nice stereos and accessories...maybe in your case the Honda's had better stuff to steal than the 73' Mavericks?

that is a possibility I guess, but there really are no F&F lookalikes here. background, the lot they're talking about is a female lot. Its a highly conservative campus, there aren't really any flashy cars, but there are cars here that double-triple the cost of any honda that aren't being touched.

Some Honda's are especially easy to break into. Some models (won't mention which or the years) are easy to get behind at the top of the window.

1994 - 1997 Honda's are actually easy to steal, but I won't say how in a forum that can be read by someone with an idea.

I had my 1992 Prelude broken into through the window. I would have never even noticed the tiny mark in the rubber seal, except that my speakers and amp were missing.

I'd just like to ad something to what gdowkpc said. On top of the ease of breaking into the cars, I think there's also more demand for their parts. Same thing goes for Camry's, Mustang's, and the like. They're easier to sell because of how common they are. Just my $.02.

Chopping these are actually quite rare compared to other models. The only time you see the Hondas chopped is when they are the suped up junk. They want more of the custom parts than anything else.

Hondas and Toyotas are easy to steal and break into....that is the bottom line. Kids will get into whatever is easier....and you can't forget the Chrysler products.

I see airbags and seatbelts taken from Camry's and Hondas all the time. Some body shops hire mopes to go out and steal them. Then they charge the insurance company full price for stolen airbags. They greatly increase their profit margins.

Airbags are serial numbered, so out Auto Theft guys are checking air bags on cars as a matter of routine.

Like OfcrDow said, some cars are easier to break into than others. I wouldn't even have mentioned how, Ofcr Dow, because I didn't think that was common knowledge.

We have many car larcenies here (not called burgs - it isn't a dwelling).
