    years after adjudication..wht can happen

HI. I am 28 and from Ohio.

I was wondering if being adjudicated mentaly ill as a minor back in the 1998-99s, if that would have an impact on being able to purchase a firearm,12 yrs later as an adult.

I can give more details if necessary.

If you were committed to a mental facility, I don't believe you can. if you just had out patient treatment, you should be okay.

Following the mass shooting at Virginia Tech, you can hopefully understand the reticence of the authorities to allow the purchase of a firearm by a person with a history of mental illness.

I understand that and whole heartedly agree. However, I was a minor and came out of an extremely abusive situation. Id be expected to have issues, but Im good now.

Im just not sure how it will work with being a minor at the time. Would I still be banned from purchasing as an adult.

You might call BATF and ask them. Or check their website to look for FAQ's or perhaps a way to contact them that way and ask. They are the final authority on stuff like that.

Out of all the things that may be involved in the future being adjudicated mentaly ill as a minor, is being able to own a firearm a top priority in your life? One of the definitions for the word adjudicated (verb) is to settle conclusively. With that said, no I don't think you will be able to purchase a firearm that has to be registered legally.

Its honestly not my fault, I just came out of an extremely bad environment, its normal for my head to be wreck. Its not just the being able to own a firearm, but what if I wanted to join the military or become a leo, etc. Then I cant because I have something resting on my shoulders thats not 100% accurate. Thats all.

Plus, Ive always been avid into firearm, since I was a youngster.
