Maryland question regarding the process for trial

    Hello again,

I have a simple question regarding the process of a traffic ticket trial, I know many of you, if not all of you are at least somewhat familiar with this and have witness this a million times.

I made an earlier post about an accident I was in, and have come to the conclusion that I will go to court and plead guilty with an explanation. However I dont have much faith that Im going to get any reduction in penalty considering I have six points on my license from an accumulation of speeding tickets, Ive already taken the DIP program, and this citation is worth 3 points. In maryland your license is suspended when you hit 8 points.

so my question is, when the judge decides that I am to recieve the full penalty of the citation:
-will my license be suspended right then and there?
-Or, will i receive a notice of suspension in the mail at a later date?
-If I am sent a notice in the mail, is my license suspended as of that moment? or do I have a period of time before it goes into effect?

Basically what Im wondering is: what is the process of suspending a license after I am officially convicted of a moving violation that brings my accumulated points up to the amount needed for suspension? Ive done some research but there are several different versions of this scenario all over the internet, and so I would simply like to have the perspective of any officers who have witnessed this scenario.

    Thank you for your responses.

    In Missouri (YMMV):

Courts do not suspend driver's licenses; the Department of Revenue does.

When the court reports the conviction to DOR, they will send you a notice of suspension (providing the violation earns you one).

The notice will have the date the suspension takes effect on it.

Different in CA, a judge can suspend your license and ask the testifying officer to take it from you and give it to the court.

However, even if your license is suspended you may be able to ask the judge for some leniency in allowing you to drive to/from work for example.

Not sure how your state works
