Need answer quick about step dad soon to be ex- stepdad

Hi my name is Amber. Recently my soon to be mother-in-law filed for divorce against her now husband. Being only 19, her son and I lived with her. When Bill (the husband) left he took all his stuff, tv, couches, beds, towels, etc. I mean he left us with nothing except the fridge and dishwasher, he even took the dryer. About two months passed and now he's back. In the 2 years they were married he was unemployed, selling drugs, sitting at home playing online poker. He didnt even have the courtesy to clean up after himself. He had every chance to make this house look a lot better than what it did. When he moved out Micah( her son) and I took it upon ourselves to put the house back together. We bought tvs for the rooms, new carpet and flooring for the kitchen and dining room (Bill tore it all up during the first year he lived here because he was going to make it look better..never happened) we even started to put a new bedroom on and now hes back and wont leave. His mom wont kick him out because she needs him for the money but micah and I have the money to help support ourselves and her. What should we do and do we have any legal rights to what we've put into the house now that he's back and expects to give us nothing in return. He just sits on our furniture and watches our tv in which we pay for. Secondly, He's been living here for over two years like I said since the got married except for the past two months. But he never changed his address, he said he was still living in Pennsylvania but he wasnt. He sold his house to his ex-wife and kid and lived with us. Can't he get in trouble for that because he's getting unemployment through Pennsylvania but he's not living there he's living in New York state.

If you and your fiance can financial support yourself, I'd recommend moving out, but Micah's mother is under no obligation to go with you, or to leave Micah's step father if she doesn't want to (even if he's good for nothing). Consequences come with adult consequences, but the consequences of your mother in law (or soon to be) deciding to live with him don't have to affect you and Micah unless you decide to stay under their roof.

What should we do and do we have any legal rights to what we've put into the house now that he's back and expects to give us nothing in return.

You'd have to take this through a civil court to get your stuff back and have a judge rule that it is in fact yours (having any receipts, checkbook records, etc would help your case) before you could get it back.

It sounds to me like you two just need to cut your losses and get away from the other two.

She is still married to him and he has every right to live there , but you DON'T.

He had every right to take the marital property but ultimately , that would be changed by a judge if they truly divorced.

If you want your stuff that YOU paid for that is OWNED by you and you fear a confrontation...move out. Get your own place. Buy the lovely couple a nice restaurant gift certificate along with movie tickets and while they are out, you MOVE your stuff and get out of the house. Don't take anything that ISN'T yours.

MAYBE you do but do you WANT to stay ?

The house is MARITAL property. He owns half of it no matter what. Regardless of him leaving , they are still MARRIED and what he has is half hers and what she has is half his. She cannot simply kick him out but your position is tenous.

With all of the crap going on , why dont you get out ?
