You can even legally open carry in the People's Republic of California. There are a bunch of rules, but you can do it.

But as most people find out when they show up at Starbucks with a gun strapped to their hip the employees tend to freak out and a bunch of people call the police- kinda ruins a nice calm cup of coffee.

I believe that Starbucks actually banned the carrying of firearms in their shops because a bunch of the open carry meetings were being held there.... may have been another company though.... my memory isn't so great.

TN required handgun carry permits (HCPs), but doesn't specify in the state statute to carry open or concealed. They can do either. I rarely see anyone open carrying in my area, but I'm in Nashville, so it's less likely in an urban environment. I did see a guy about 20 min up the road from Nashville (Mt. Juliet, TN) with a holstered gun on his hip at Chick-fil-a. Not sure if he was a LEO or permit holder, but either way it didn't really cause me any concern.

I don't see a problem with having to get a concealed weapons permit, but I have a problem with the "may issue" states. Having to provide a reason to the Secretary of the State Police (or the applicable authority) in order to carry concealed is ridiculous.
    Noli nothis permittere te terere.
