    Hunting

    Hey there.

I joined this forum to ask one question. Unless you were in my situation, it might appear to be a dumb question. At first glance, it might seem as if I'm asking if hunting with a dog is illegal. However, that's not all there is to this.

There's a certain hog in the woods of Punta Gorda, Florida that keeps slicing up and killing dogs. I know a man that has seen this happen multiple times to three different dogs. One of them died, the other came very close and actually ended up getting her back sliced up something terrible before the other wound could even heal thoroughly. I still don't know if she was ever properly stitched up either. She might die as well. This hog is a well trained dog slayer, and the guy knows damn well. He's bringing 4 more dogs out with 3 other people and I assure you all, those dogs are f**ked. I feel like this is probably legal, but if you could just see, you'd realize it's legalized animal cruelty. I tried saving one dogs life but she bled out from inside her cheek. She died in horrible pain and it was terribly slow.

An answer from an official cop would be much appreciated.

In the course of hunting with a dog(s), damage can, and will be done. It's just that this situation is so different. They know it's going to be a slaughter, but they just want to get this particular hog to feel a little better about themselves (I guess). Is hunting with a dog even legal to begin with? Or does this particular circumstance fall under breaking a law?

I recommend you check with the agency/department that handles the area where this hunting is taking place...

I still don't know what you're saying. Someone you know trained a hog to attack and kill hunting dogs?

Is going hunting for a dog-slaying pig with dogs illegal? I have to say that this is the weirdest question I've been asked in 5+ years on this forum. As long as (a) it's hunting season, (b) one has permission to hunt on the involved land and (c) there's no restriction on hunting pigs (or dog-slaying pigs), I would say it's perfectly legal.

p.s. All of the LEOs on this forum are "official." That's why there's a blue "verified LEO" tag to the right of our pictures.

Yeah, I figured it was perfectly legal. Sorry I wasn't clear enough. I tried to think of how to reword it, but that's about as clear as I can make it.

    Thanks.

Hahaha, right? I seen the damn thing. It's pretty big. They're going after it next week, so I'm gonna go slay the beast beforehand. I'm actually an avid hunter, I just never seen the use in hunting dogs. More often then not, they alert the game that something is in the area, then they're gone. So from an ethical and common sense standpoint it just seems wrong.

So if you used a dog or dogs to to hunt this thing wouldn't it be like live bait?

Well, not necessarily. They use them to track. But if you're a good hunter, then you're also a good tracker - they go hand in hand. So I guess people who just aren't very adept hunters use them. I just feel that when you know that no dog can handle a particular target, you probably shouldn't make them go on a suicide mission. Lol.

Woops. I just now saw your question, Greg. Haha, I guess I shouldn't have used the word "trained". It's just got a lot of experience being hunted.
