    High speed chases

My basic question is, Is there a speed limit the police aren't supposed to pass when in pursuit of a suspect?

I am asking because my mother and her boyfriend robbed a gas station about 7 years ago and during the high speed chase, they lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The officer following them then accidentally ran over my mother while she laid in the street. (she was ejected from the car since she wasn't wearing her seat belt). Some one told me that we could file a wrongful death suit or something like that because the officer continued to pursue them at unsafe speeds. Is this true? Is there any way I can see like the police report or accident report? No one has given me the whole story... I would just like to know what happened. Am I allowed to talk to the officer who was there?

    Any answers/advice/comments welcome!!

Sorry about you losing your mother. You should contact a lawyer with your questions.

The speed Im not supposed to exceed is the top speed of my cruiser. Because I literally can't. And if you sue the police because your mother died because she wasn't wearing her seatbelt, while fleeing from the police after committing a serious felony, then the saying "the nut doesn't fall far from the tree" takes effect.

Sorry for being rude, but you want to blame someone else for the series of bad choices your mother and her boyfriend made. Her boyfriend is the one that chose the speed for that chase, not the officer. The police didn't "pursue at unsafe speeds", her boyfriend RAN at unsafe speeds, forcing the officer to risk his or her life to keep up. how about placing the blame on those actually responsible for the series of events that occurred that day, your mother and her boyfriend.
