    License Checks

i have decided against the powerpoint you guys have brang up a lot of good points. My "teacher" asked me if i could do this because i have recently learned how to do it. A guest speaker sounds like the perfect thing to do. Also Samuel what do you mean by my intro?

Go through the necessary class for the computer info to learn how to run DL information and what the response entails from the respective databases (NLETS, NCIC ,etc). From the sounds of your post, you're not a commissioned LEO, so you're basically trying to teach a class based only on experiences from possibly riding with LEOs through I'm assuming an Explorer program (via your screen name)? The actual terminology and search functions used fall under information that is not privy (open) to the public. I would not supply this information to you or anyone else. It can land you in trouble with the state/fed agency that has oversight over those who use the databases.

We don't teach people how "to do" traffic stops. Even criminal justice programs in school are not taught STOPS tactics, but simply overviews of traffic stops and the constitutional requirements in order to make a legal stop and subsequent search, seizure, etc. Unless you're a LEO or have a LEO speaker available, I would choose a different topic (due to lack of experience/training).

p.s. On a side note, I would work on spelling, grammar, and punctuation. I hope your school papers are not representative of your post.

Hey scott i just wanted to say thank you for the reply! I had no idea what i was about to do was so wrong. i guess we learn something new everyday. I thought it would be helpfull for my class to learn this because we are currently studying law enforcement in criminal justice. Now i feel like an idiot lol but i guess it was better learning my lesson from you instead of in real life. I am currently in high school studying criminal justice and this is my first year of it. I guess i would have learned this already if i had a teacher that actauly acknowledged what i was about to do was wrong too. thanks sgt. scott.

Why not check with you local PD ? There are a LOT of different software programs out there that we use and they show information in a different way. Perhaps your local PD would be able to give you the answers to your questions that are accurate to your area.

I know that I get different information back depending on the state info that I am running. When I run PA stuff I get one thing , from Maryland it is different.

PA doesn't show race , Maryland does.

PA doesn't show insurance info , Maryland does.

thanks for the reply mcsap! i think you guys kind of misunderstood me aswell! I was not going to actauly tell them how to use police programs on a pc to do this. i was actauly tought this at a local post and have also witnessed traffic stops. our PD's might be different than yours the police officer does not do the actaul license check on his computer. everything is done between your command post and the officer. Runing the tag and license checks are even done between the command centers and the officers and it is for everyone to hear over a live scanner. thats why i didn't believe it would be wrong to do because anyone can hear it over the scanner. sorry for the quick post lol geting ready for school. thanks again sgt and mcsap.

According to our information down here, Indiana does not have any registered vehicles! I have yet to get a return from that state on any plate!
