    Evading the Police..?

I'm looking over the PHS for my first choice PD. It has a question on it asking if I have ever evaded the police in a car, I don't believe that I have but I have a situation and would like your opinions.

Years ago (when I was 16) My friends and I were driving around late one night, we were on a back street with no traffic and a long straight away headed back to my friend's house. I was complaining how my car had no pick up and to prove my point I floored the car and was showing how long it took to get up in speed. At this point I was well over the speed limit and a car was coming in the opposite direction. After I passed the car one of my friends said "that was a cop" so I said "Oh no, let me slow down" I slowed down to the speed limit and checked my rear view mirror, and I'm pretty sure the car that I passed had pulled into another street and turned around. I turned onto another street and passed a police car, then I reached my friends house (it was right up the street from where I was speeding) and parked in front of his house.

    My questions are:

    1) If the first car that I passed was a police car, and the police car turned around after I sped past did I evade the police by not stopping and waiting for the car to catch up even though the car didn't turn on their lights and it very well could have been some other random car turning onto the same street I was on?

    2) Would it be a reasonable assumption to say that if the first car that I passed was a police car and I was going to be stopped that the second police car would have stopped me, since the other police car was on the exact same neighborhood street that I turned onto?

    3) I don't know how polygraphs work, but if I were to answer this question no on th PHS, then be asked it in a polygraph could I show a lie response even if I didn't evade the police but I think in this situation I might have?

    4) Should I just answer the question yes on the PHS and give the above explanation just to be safe?

    5) Would answering yes to evading the police be a really bad thing for my hiring probability?

Tell them what happened. It's not that big a deal at 16 and there was no chase involved. Being honest is much easier in the long run than hedging. I doubt they will get all that excited about that incident.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Were you trying to get away from the police officer? If you were, that's technically evading.
    2) Would it be a reasonable assumption to say that if the first car that I passed was a police car and I was going to be stopped that the second police car would have stopped me, since the other police car was on the exact same neighborhood street that I turned onto?
Not really. At this point, who cares?
    3) I don't know how polygraphs work, but if I were to answer this question no on th PHS, then be asked it in a polygraph could I show a lie response even if I didn't evade the police but I think in this situation I might have?
Just be honest and truthful all the time and you won't ever have to worry about it.
    4) Should I just answer the question yes on the PHS and give the above explanation just to be safe?
If it makes you feel good.
    5) Would answering yes to evading the police be a really bad thing for my hiring probability?
Can you imagine where it would be a really GOOD thing???

Check State laws, but in KS, you have to have been given an audible and visual signal to pull over before you have attempted to flee or elude (evade) a LEO.

I would file this under general new driver jackassery. I have turned on several vehicles that I never initiated a traffic stop with, for whatever reason.
