All of our vehicles are equipped with roof mounted billboard speed readouts. When I stop someone, the board displays their speed on the billboard so all they have to do is turn around and look behind them. It's pretty convenient.
All sarcasm aside, to the OP: As you have read, most people, like myself, don't lock speeds on the display, we just make our observation and pull you over based on that. With RADAR or LIDAR, I'm not obligated to show you the speed on the display. I understand its frustrating for you roadside, but you can challenge it in court and make the officer testify to his observations.
