    Advice

Hi how are you guy's doing? My name is James i am 21 years old from Victoria Texas. I graduated from the local police academy in my city May 27,2010. I have currently been seeking employment going on 4 months now. The more time i spend searching for employment the more desire and passion i build up for my career. I recently applied in a small town and i have been talking to the captain off and on. He informed me that they hired some one to go through a academy and if he does not make it their reserve will get the position. The captain advised that i should also go for a reserve position. That being said the two guys basically got the job, I ultimately just rather take the reserve position and gain experience rather then none. I am willing to work as a reserve as much as i possibly can to gain experience. I need some input on what you guy's think i should do thank you for taking the time to read.

If you want to take a reserve position to get some experience then feel free to do so.

But the best advice is to apply to as many places as you can; more applications = more chances for a yes.

Welcome, James. I agree with Citicop, apply to as many departments as you can. I would imagine the longer out of the academy you are, your chances of being hired might diminish.

A lot of small departments do like to make people work for nothing for a while as a cheap way to check them out. Personally, I wouldn't do it, I'd find someone willing to pay me for my work.

If you're willing to relocate, obviously your chances will be better. I'd check the web sites of all departments you might be at all interested in and make applications. Applying is free.

    Good luck!
