The amount of lighting they have is also illegal but we don't normally mess with them on that. They've got roof lights, dash lights, some even have wig wags.
Why did you have to go and post that! Now Lasagnabreath will be putting all those roof lights, dash lights, side lights, inside lights, back lights, under carriage lights, strobe lights, disco lights, and wig wags on his vehicle!

You keep saying this yet you ignore the real issue. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO IN YOUR PICK-UP TRUCK FILLED WITH LIGHTS, WITH NO HOSES, NO WATER AND NO TOOLS AT AN INCIDENT THAT THE POLICE ON SCENE CAN'T DO? A few seconds do nothing.
And for the insurance part, I've been with the same insurance company for 35 years, and not a SINGLE accident. I bet you if I call them up tomorrow, they will tell me I can go ahead with the lights.. Not everyone is cold-hearted..
This is actually the most disturbing part. I don't want to speak for others, but most of us thought you were a kid... an immature little teen. I mean who else would act so irrationally, doing something without researching the law first, or talking to a police officer or the chief. And now we find out you are not a young kid, but somebody who has been driving for 35 years...meaning you are roughly 51. Anyone at your age with the lack of common sense, maturity and general ability to communicate has no business being on a firetruck.

Are you done with us and here yet? You asked a question....it was asnwered...you did not like the answer and asked your police friends. Now you can contribute to the site on other matters or just go fight fires and leave us alone about this. The horse is dead and beaten to a pulp.

Please show me in the law that I posted where it allows you to run blues.

As a side note, if you intended to ask the Chief's son all along, why waste our time?

Called your insurance company yet? If they do allow it, expect to pay some serious premiums.

How old are you? Your posts honestly sound like you're about 18.

Most volly FFs I knew got to the scene quicker than the fire truck. Without water and manpower you're not going to do much more than a LEO already on scene.
In Texas they have a duty to yield to the right and come to a stop if it can be done safely, and not proceed until the emergency vehicle has passed.
I've actually cited a few that didn't yield to an ambulance.
Sec. 545.156. VEHICLE APPROACHED BY AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE. (a) On the immediate approach of an authorized emergency vehicle using audible and visual signals that meet the requirements of Sections 547.305 and 547.702, or of a police vehicle lawfully using only an audible signal, an operator, unless otherwise directed by a police officer, shall:

(1) yield the right-of-way;

(2) immediately drive to a position parallel to and as close as possible to the right-hand edge or curb of the roadway clear of any intersection; and

(3) stop and remain standing until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed.

(b) This section does not exempt the operator of an authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons using the highway.
I know it's hard to believe, but this Volunteer FF responding to an emergency in his POV, which is equipped properly, is considered an emergency vehicle.

Why the hell would I go spending $200+ on lights unless I really wanted to help people? I honestly hate the look of the lights, but i'll do whatever it takes to get to the scene quicker.. My Dad has an MBA but that doesn't mean I know anything about business...

Let me run down the sequence of events here.

-You came here and asked a question.
-You got several concurring answers, including the actual text of the applicable law in your state.
-You didn't like the answer(s) you got, so you both acted petulant and found a "source" that agreed with you.
-You have refused to answer all follow up questions asked of you (quoting the exact law that supports your position, what actions you could take once on scene with the equipment you carry in your POV, etc.) despite being given multiple opportunities to do so.
-This thread is going nowhere. Leaving it open would serve no purpose other than to allow you to further evade true discussion of the topic at hand.

If you choose to stay here at RP, you need to remember that you're going to get the truth as we see it, and that everyone here with the "Verified LEO" tag (and a great many other members as well) have much, MUCH more experience than you do. If you're going to make a point in an argument, countering someone who posted THE TEXT OF THE LAW with "the chief's son told me" is not going to fly here.

If you continue the attitude you've shown so far, your stay will be short and unpleasant. You've been warned.
