    Boston Bank Robberies

I was listening to a trailor today for the new Ben Affleck movie coming out in the fall about a hoist in Boston. The trailor starts off by saying, "There are 300 bank robberies a year in Boston."

Does that happen to be true by any chance? Are there that many bank robberies annually in a major city?

If so, that is definitely going to change my habits, lol...

    I don't know that's 25 a month....seems high for ANY city. I don't think Pittsburgh has 25 a year...

How many bank robberies a year does Boston have? | ChaCha Answers

Q: How many bank robberies a year does Boston have?

A: Statistics are not kept on bank robberies by city, but there were 23 bank robberies in Massachusetts during the first quarter of 2010, according to the FBI. Sorting states from most bank robberies to fewest, Massachusetts ranks #21.

The first 3 answers that Google popped up with said "300"... which kind of goes to show you how our History gets re-written. I don't know for certain that this one is accurate, but it certainly sounds more accurate without geting into the FBI mainframe.

According to the FBI crime stats for 2008, Boston had 2,398 robberies. It doesn't break them down into armed or strong arm robberies though.

Portland had 1132 robberies over that same period (just under half as many) and we don't get 150 bank robberies a year. In fact, I would say 50 bank robberies would be a high estimate.
