It certainly can't hurt you. In my experience those who have had one good military tour or more are a little more competitive for a couple of reasons. They have demonstrated the ability to endure certain hardships and follow orders. You may even find out during your time in the military that you really like it and make a career out of it. You never know what may happen. If you do go in the service, go into the Marines.![]()
Military service plus a degree, BS not AS, is always a plus for any LEO position. Be it Federal, State, or Local.
As far as the service goes I would choose the service that will offer you the most. Give you the job you want, Education during and after your service, quality of life while serving, ect...
Figure out what career you want and make the military give you that position (IN WRITING!!!). Even if you have to wait 6 or 8 months to get that position. Do NOT be in a rush to join!!! Remember the recruiter has people above him telling him to push people into certain jobs so if he can get you to take one of those positions he will.
If you can get an Investigator position ARMY CID, USAF OSI, or Navy NCIS position I'd jump on it but I don't think they offer those positions to lower ranking enlisted.
Wrong door, buddy
