Hey, do you guys ever let off Politicians, Celebrities, or Athletes for minor traffic violations.
I dont think I ever stopped one of the above but I have let complete strangers off with a warning so I guess I most cetainly could ??!!
Almost everyone I stop gets at least one warning. I don't write every ticket I can (I don't even make every stop that I could...).
But would I treat someone famous differently than everyone else? Probably not.
The only exception to this would be if they really came off with an attitude that they *expected* a break because they were famous. That would irritate me badly, and they would likely get the ticket even if a warning might otherwise have been issued.

We won't rest 'till we find the mutt.
Yes.....unless they paly for the Redsox...then they get two tickets!
I gave many wanrnings to many folks when I was in uniform. If you were nice, admitted you were wrong or admitted missed the sign/issue and apologized, you usually walked away with nothing. If you argued or called me a liar, you got tickets. Celebs in my experience were always polite and never argued.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.
I never let anyone off just because they were a politician, athlete or celebrity. I've written several former Trail Blazers, not because they were pro athletes, but because they were driving like total idiots and I didn't think a warning would register with them.
Frankly, I think a lot of celebrities are polite because they know they probably will get off. I've never stopped any, but I've done some private security for them and I didn't find most to be all that nice and polite. Some were really thoughtful and kind people, but others were annoying and acted entitled. A couple were total @sses I would never work for again.
I've never stopped any politicians. But again, it would depend on the severity of the violation a lot more than who they were.
I didn't write many tickets, but when I did it was generally because they were driving dangerously, not really because of attitude.

I had one guy who thought he was a celebrity once..... apparently he felt he was someone important (I had no idea who he was). As I was talking to him he kept acting like a jerk and said several times "You apparently don't know who I am.". So I finally replied "Yeah, I know who you are, you are the guy who is about to get a ticket.". And he did.

Wrong door, buddy
The two nicest I worked for were Mikhail Baryshnikov and Barry Gibbs. All the Gibbs were nice, but I was guarding their hotel room and Barry would come out every so often with goodies from their catering table and offer me something. Baryshinikov was genuinely glad to be in America and appreciated anything anyone did for him.
Andrew Dice Clay, I would never work for again under any circumstances. He was as big jerk in person as he was in his comedy routine. He also traveled with this entourage of weightlifters who were total @sses. I'm glad his career was a flash in the pan and hope he's pumping gas somewhere.....
The only celebrity I ever really wanted to meet and couldn't was Bill Cosby. I've wondered if his personality is as nice as his stage persona?

My standard reply to "Dont you know who I am is"
Your drivers licence says you are John Smith of 123 Smith ST, Smithsville (of course using their details), makes them feel like a right dill
There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.
Not too long ago, Our Police Commissioner's driver was pulled over for speeding, with the "Commish" in the passenger seat. In Defense of the Officer that pulled them over he does drive in an unmarked car!! I digress though
The Commish told the Officer to issue the ticket to his driver.... No Favours issued here.

Our old chief was involved in a minor at-fault traffic crash a few years ago and told the investigating officer to cite him, even though our policy allows us not to write tickets to on-duty officers involved in crashes.
I've never had the opportunity to stop anyone famous, but I wouldn't treat them any different than anyone else. I give lots of warnings, so they may get a warning based upon the violation. I would feel a lot less bad about writing one of them an expensive ticket because they obviously have more of a means to pay it than the average joe working at Wal-Mart.
