    Casino cruise detained

Maybe this is not the right place to ask this but was very curious so figured id give it a shot.

I was recently on a casino cruise out of NY and there was a problem with a draw bridge and we were stuck on the boat for a extra hour. A small group of people were angry and said they wanted there money back and started arguing with head of security. head of secuirty was also arguing back, i think he could have just walked away. There was no threat of violence and the head of security called for backup and had 2 guys detained.

I was just wondering if this was legal for them to be detained? It didnt seem like they broke any laws. They didnt want to go in the back and they were pretty much dragged, and one of the guys wifes demanded she be able to go back there with her husband and they said no and she would have to wait for him on the dock when we got back.

I would say that security personnel are ultimately responsible for the security of the boat and its passengers. They are not restricted to governmental regulations like police officers are. It's just the same as bouncers at a night club or the flight crew on an airplane. I'm sure it also states in the small print before you get on the boat that they have the right to remove anyone they feel the need to. What people have to realize is that the casino boats are private property. You have to follow their rules or face consequences. That's not to say that boats, night clubs, and the like don't get sued for excessive force, etc, but it's rare that a civil suit is won against these places because 99% of the time the person doing most of the wrong is the drunk dumb a** that won't listen to instructions.

You have to remember that these days security on all forms of transportation have a lot of leeway in the courts in controlling the unruly behavior of passengers. I personally hate being on cruise ships, once they leave port you are basically at their whim until they pull back into port and you can disembark.
