    does tinting offend you?

I drive a toyota tacoma 2010 sport package. i was thinking about getting my windows tinted in the front (to legal specifications), but my dad says it'll make me a cop magnet. so i was wondering if an officer such as yourself would feel the urge to pull someone over just for tinted windows? help me out here! thanks -ryan

Here in PA that is officer dependant, meaning you won't get a straight answer across the board. Some guys thrive on on tint violations, some use it as a means to get something else, some dont care.

And in response to the thread title its not about offending us, it's about what is legal.

If by "in the front" you are talking about the windshield, in Va it is illegal to install any tint whatsoever on it. So yes, you would be a cop magnet.

If in fact you are talking about the drivers window/passengers window, no it would not make you a cop magnet provided it was, as you state, to legal specifications.

    Best wishes.

If the tint is illegal, then "yes" it attracts attention. I know some officers who have got drugs and/or guns out of vehicles just because of a tint violation. I don't like dark tint for the mere fact I cannot see in the vehicle well. I usually tell the driver to turn the interior light on during the duration of the stop. There's nothing "offensive" about illegal tint. It's illegal and a safety issue.

Yeah, it offended me. I like to be able to see inside a car when I approach it. If someone is in the car with a gun pointed at me and I can't see it because of the tint, I'm pretty offended.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

Remember that even your brand new truck already has factory tint which is down to about the 72% VLT mark. You are not starting with 100% clear glass. Be careful how much you add so you aren't illegal which is probably 35% VLT.

What state are you in ?

Listen to dad, he is smarter than you think.

It isnt so much it annoys us, as it gets our attention.

On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL

It all depends on where you are. Down here the majority of cars have tinted windows just because of the sun and heat. As long as it's legally tinted then it wouldn't attract my attention. In other places tinted windows are a lot more rare.
