    anxiety

so i took advice from one of my previous posts and saw a psych doc at the local hospital the other day. he gave me adavan for 10 days and told me not to consume caffeine and told me he didn't think i had any anxiety or depression issues outside of normal worries most people go through. i wasn't diagnosed with anything. the adavan was more or less to get me over a hump or he was just pill happy because they're for as needed and i haven't needed them yet lol

will this effect me negatively? other than my slight case of nerves (probably over the pt test and alert test) and lack of sleep he said i was good to go and advised me on no caffeine more exercise and such. how would i explain this later? that i was prescribed adavan, never took it and never was diagnosed

If you don't need them, don't take them.

Exercise is an excellent way to relieve stress. I suspect a number of other people are alive today because I worked out daily......

Just make sure if you don't take them, you return them to the doc and make him write that in your chart. I can tell you in the NYPD process if you don't take them and return them, it is considered a non-issue. If you don't take them and throw them away, and say you didn't take them, but have no proof, They look at you as if you are lying or BS'ing.

Being in LE can be EXTREMELY stressful. If you can't handle the day to day issues of civilan life without meds , you'll be hard pressed to convince us that you can handle the job of being a police officer.

After I was advised of this young ladies traumatic background , I sent her a pm apologizing for my remark. My statement was intended for the person who through life in general ( w/o any significant trauma) needed meds to get by was not a good candidate for LE.

From what she's posted, she's been through more stressful situations growing up than most of us have. Being raped as child hardly qualifies as day to day civilian stress. It may well make a her a better cop because she can have more empathy for people.

turns out the doctor at the hospital is just a general doc which isn't what I told them I wanted. Hyped up on caffeine is far from anxiety lol. I was only at the hospital 5 minutes for a referral and an upset stomach, decided to take care of both at the same time lol. The guy didn't even really talk to me. just prescribed it and sent me on my way, with no freakin referral.

my best friend just happens to have some mental health issues and his doc said she would give me an evaluation. How much consideration would they weigh into the prescription if I have a psychiatrist that states I am mentally sound? She works with inmates, law enforcement and corrections mostly so....I am hoping her opinion would outweigh that of a general practitioner?

mcsap...I understand where you are coming from with that though. I understand it's extremely stressful and weather life attempted to kick my....well either way, if I cant handle stress regardless of the past than I wouldn't have any business getting into the profession to begin with. If at any point I find that I dont have the confidence in my ability I will walk away from it and find another way to get involved. I always appreciate the input since ya'll have been there, done what I want to do and can provide the insight that I cannot. ;)

However, I will admit that I am always aware of my surroundings and constantly keeping myself open to the fact that people may not be as they seem. I tend to take everything in and process it and remember the little details of a persons personality. I tend to remember almost every lie and inconsistency. I do not know if this is because of my past, probably is but does this constitute as making me "unfit for duty"? None of this makes me "anxious" it's just a state of awareness I guess. I dont really ponder any of it. I just always tend to remember tiny details and inconsistencies later. Being around, sick people doesn't make me anxious...guess that is the best way to describe them. Yes I worry about grades and performance and finances but doesn't everyone? Would it be realistic to believe that I would have to be totally care free to do the job?

Took the ALERT test today and it was easy. Overall other than the worries about the stupid prescription thing I'm totally confident with everything. Really it is not a life effecting crippling worry.
