    Your favorite shift and why

I would think the best shift to work would be nights, I mean Im sure the nights go by fast and it still gives an officer time to spend with his family, or so I think

Where I work nights are boring and go the longest. I like afternoons and that's what I work however you can't have much of a social life. I HATE mornings and therefore daylights do not work for me.

The young guns will generally want to work afternoons, or 2PM to 10PM.
If they're single and love the party life, or if they want to get into as much action as possible, that's the shift for them.
Night shift, Midnights, graveyards, or what some call third shift, is 10PM to 6AM.
That shifts filled with a variety, from the 8 and skate to the ones looking for the Booger man.
Since I hate day shift, because I've never been one who enjoys getting up at 4:20AM, and who can never adjust, that leaves two shifts that I personally prefer.
I'm not much of a party animal anymore, and I'm sure as heck not looking to get into all kinds of action, plus my kids just about grown, I prefer Midnight shift.
Always been able to sleep like a baby during the day, plus there's no traffic to stress over.

Day shift with weekends and holidays off, no on-call, when talking within hearing range of the warden.

Swing shift running a squad of street warriors on action nights is where the most fun is.

Like tcop733, I preferred graveyard shift when I worked uniform, 11 pm to 7 am. The hours were kind of rough, but I liked dealing with the night denizens on the street more than I liked the general public. I hated having to put up with John Q. Citizen's pissing and moaning about his neighbor's kid throwing his ball in his yard. And when I got a DV, it was a good one. Not one where Mama is ticked because Papa didn't clean up after himself. When I got there, the picture window was broken and the coffee table was in the front yard.

After I made detective, I went to days and stayed there. I've always been a morning person, preferring to go to bed early and get up early. It wasn't so bad since I dealt with the public more on my terms and not being subject to the whims of a radio dispatcher.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

It's funny the two jobs I work are almost complete opposites. At one you could cuss people out and call them names and everything else and they wont get offended, at the other if you tell someone no they are appalled. Guess which one pays more?

I had an IA complaint for excessive force. I was called in by the IA Sgt who said it was for kneeing some handcuffed guy in the groin as I was putting him in the car. When he told me the guy's name, I was kind of bewildered and ask if "Jamie" made the complaint. He said, no, it was some lawyer driving by at 2 in the morning. I asked what Jamie said about it and he replied he hadn't interviewed him yet.

I took out my notebook, told the Sgt. that since it was 3 in the afternoon, Jamie should be up by now and gave him his phone number. He called and I could tell by the look on his face and his side of the conversation that it wasn't going well. Apparently Jamie told him that it was none of his or the reporter's business. Also that he (Jamie) had been "out of line" and I did what I needed to do. He also wanted the name and address of the sumbitch that called in because he wanted a piece of him!

    Night and day.......
