Number one motivation?

It's *surprise* different than I thought. I was expecting money, but I guess a lot of people want money for drugs... and then you have people that are just sadistic and/or looney aswell.

Maybe it's just me but don't you think that money and greed are the same?

I also really agree with RDS. Lack of morals & ethics + greed = a bunch of people breaking the law for what they think of as easy money. Until they get caught.

I guess I'm the only one on here that works in an area that would be nearly crime free if it wasnt for crimes related to drugs. Maybe I'm lucky?

Lack of ethics, morals and empathy for others. That's three, but they all intertwine.

A lot of crimes have nothing to do with money or greed. Sex crimes, for instance. Also vandalism and although some murders revolve around money, not all. Same with assaults.

But even where there is greed, it's the lack of morals that allow them to steal or whatever rather than work for it. There are a lot of poor people who are honest. The trouble with our profession is that we rarely deal with them for it's easy to not realize they exist.

Erm I would label that as a catalyst sooner that a cause. Although if you really love the stuff and have no money...

Officer retdetsgt makes some good points. I mean, why do people vandalize? In the words of a brilliant movie:
