Is it legal to carry a shotgun in a car in TX?

There has been alot of trouble in my hood and we had our home broken into 2x in the last year (nothing stolen successfully thank god) as well as a couple of people in cars following some of my friends home all in 2010.. my question to u :

is it legal to carry a shotgun in my car? (in TX) or what permits do you need or how can i carry something around for personal protection?

im 20 yrs old and just dont feel safe anymore without some sort of edge while ridin around this part of houston. i know enough about beating someone's a** in a brawl but fists are no match against a gun..1st thing to do when i turn 21 is get my CHL because carrying around a big wrench in my ride isnt gonna prove enough for somebody tryin to rob my car..

    thanks for your time =)

Google Texas Legislature, then click statutes and follow the links all the way to section 46 of the penal code. It is not generally unlawful to carry a shotgun, rifle or handgun in your vehicle. In your vehicle you must keep a handgun concealed, not be a member of a criminal street gang, not be committing a crime, and not be prohibited by law from possessing a firearm.

Just out of interest, why a shot gun? Big bulky, unless experienced, hard to be tactial with.

Sounds you are looking for a spray and pray option which concerns me as to your motive for having it in the first place. Having used a 12 gauge rurally, if you are taking a shotty to a brawl, you are going to hit more than your target which will be a flurry of people not stationary and not overly happy at seeing 2 pipes pointed at them.

    Just food for thought.

I'm betting reading comprehension is an issue with you... unless you fall within those parameters.

    Maybe you need smaller words?
