Is there such a thing as a "routine" traffic stop? Do you prepare the same for each stop? Can you give me an example of a stop that seemed routine, but turned dangerous or violent and how that tested your skills and training as an officer?

Go find a police officer in person in your area and ask him or her your homework question, you'll get a better more genuine answer. Then you might want to go introduce yourself in the New Members section.

No traffic stop is routine. Each and every one can kill you. Next question...
what he said.
Most traffic stops are routine, the problem is you just don't know that until the stop is over and the violater is on their way.
Excuse me Officer, I have a stupid Question. "No problem, I've got a stupid answer for you!"
I hate the phrase "routine traffic stop."
We train for two kinds of traffic stops:
1.) High Risk Stops
2.) Unknown Risk Stops
Never assume a stop will be routine.

Each time I stop a car I visualize there will be a shootout. Keeps me sharp I think. Hope I never lose that.

Many a traffic stop escalates into, heck just about anything you can imagine.
The only routine traffic stop is the one that's already completed. I'm going to close this one, because anything more specific than that is going into tactics and operational information that is not public information.
