    Anyone on DC Police Dept?

Hello--I posted earlier about research I'm doing on my 31st novel. I'm also wondering about jurisdiction issues. My plot deals with the homicide of a sitting Supreme Court justice. I was told the DCPD would investigate everything within the city limits. I would assume that several alphabet agencies would also be involved, though. What place would the DCPD have in the case?

There is an immediate connection made between the homicide and one under investigation by the DCPD. With that link, what place would the DCPD have in the investigation? Would the FBI take lead in both cases?

    Thanks!

There are several ways this could play out depending on the connection.

What works best for your plot?

This is a work of fiction, after all...

Because I know that I'll inadvertently get some things wrong, simply because I lack the background, I do strive for as much credibility as I can manage in the plots. I only stretch things when I absolutely have to and then always confess up front in the acknowledgements Keeps me honest.

The connection is a note left with each of the bodies with one word scrawled on it, referencing one of the deadly sins. Same notecard, red crayon used. I'd think they'd believe a link, yes? Even though the manner of death is different? So the DCPD would already be investigating the first one (a global investment banker) when the justice is killed.

I have the FBI involved on the case. I assume the DCPD would play some sort of role and just wondered how much at the forefront they would be. Also wondered if Homeland Security might get involved? And if the US Marshals Service might have a role. Any other entities? Figuring this might be a fairly massive undertaking.

I believe Library of Congress Police would investigate it.

That may only if he were in there with Mrs. Plumb and Colonel Mustard.
