I ran a red light and almost caused an accident. Will anything happen?

I was at a stop because the light was red, but for some reason, I thought the light turned green and I just went straight. A car was making a right turn and almost crashed into my car but he was able to stop on time. I was 1 second away from my house and I parked into the garage. I was shaking. That car that was behind me stopped in front of my house and he left. Will anything happen? I am so scared. It was a bad mistake and I will not let it happen again.

Should I report it myself to the police? I'm just scared that person might report me. What shouuld I do? I never got a single ticket in my life and I have lived in this town for 22 years.

If there was no traffic collision there is nothing to report. Hopefully it scared you into paying more attention while driving.

IN PA you COULD be cited on information received if the person wished to go to court on it. Probably not the case though.

Probably have nothing to worry about. Just count yourself lucky you didn't cause an accident and pay closer attention next time!

Slow down and arrive alive. Nothing to worry about unless a catastrophic event took place as you committed the violation. If all is clear, you are clear!

In small towns anyway. I've only done it once in four years for following too closely. These people were adamant about this person tailgatign them and did show up at the hearing. The offender was found guilty. Most of the time though people don't tell us, I'm just saying it's possible.

Can't be done in CA. It is an infraction and has to be witnessed by an officer. If a citizen was to make a complaint, they have to go to the District Attorney's office, swear out a complaint, identify the other vehicle and driver and testify in court. Lots of issues when it comes to those situations and the D/A usually denies such action.

We often play DA. On criminal days at the magistrate's office we don't always have an ADA there and will sometimes have to prosecute our own cases.

In a traffic case a citation would be filed on info received and solely on the complainant/victim's testimony. Since the officer didnt see it about the only they can do is say they received a complaint.
