Question about police interrogation procedure for my screenplay.

I've been doing some research and I found out that in real life, the police always like to bring suspects to the interrogation room at the station to try to extract a confession. That way they got it all on tape of course. Now I'm guessing when the police do this they ask the suspect to come down to the station to answer questions.

My question is if the suspect refused to come in, are the cops allowed to arrest him, just for questioning? I thought you can only be arrested if you were charged with a crime, and they can't charge the suspect if there isn't enough evidence and they need a confession. So if that's true and he refuses to come in, would the cops be forced to question him outside the station, and therefore would not be able to get it on tape? I want to set my script in reality as much as I can, so what are the laws? Thanks.

The most common mistake I see in movies and read in books is that the police officers aren't wearing their hats. If they have their hats on, they can do pretty much anything they want.

I could never find that hot, sultry female detective that would fall in love with me at the end of the case either. It's not fair!

You're probably lucky. That happened to me once and my wife got real mad. I have to say that timeworn ending is overrated. I have the scars to prove it.

Probably a good reason they don't show that part on TV.

That's why all our hats come with a drawstring attached! . Were not going to lose a case because of the hat rule.

My PD did one better. We had have Velcro surgically imparted in our foreheads. That holds the hats on place.

Our union sucks- it was the only option. My wife is really upset as they used a bright red Velcro, but she will get used to it. My only concern is that as I age, where is that Velcro going to go? Am I going to have a uni-brow of red Velcro?

Gravity will pull it someplace where it does not show.
