Wrong Type of Car Listed On Ticket

    Hello all,

A few months ago I was pulled over here in VA for an expired registration/inspection. I got only a warning for the inspection but was issued a ticket for the registration. I just noticed when going to pay the fine that the officer wrote that my car is a 4 door car on the ticket. My car in reality is only a 2 door. Would that have been enough to get the charge dismissed since it was an incorrect report? It doesn't matter legally or monetarily now since the case has come and gone, I am just curious. Thanks!

No it wouldn't invalidate the ticket, at most the Judge would have the officer ammend the citation to reflect the correct number of doors. Minor errors don't invalidate citations.

You are stuck with it. No one would be able to question that it was, in fact, the same car you were driving.

Along those lines, I hit a deer once and the officer inadvertently put the wrong year of manufacture down for my truck on the report. I never noticed, sent out my proof of insurance, etc. The state suspended my license for driving an uninsured vehicle. I had to go and show them that the vehicle that I was driving was the one on my insurance policy (compared VINs, etc) and got it taken care of. The bottom line is, people make mistakes and it is the way it goes...but one can hardly contest the validity of the ticket with a simple, easy to make mistake.

Nope. Not an issue. If the officer wrote that it was a Honda Civic and it was a Toyota Camry, it might get dismissed.
