I was just wondering - why were the light bars on police cars changed from the traditional straight bar to the "V" shape?

Ours are all straight LED's, and they are brand new. No one in my area uses the V shape.

The theory behind the v shaped bars was 360 degree visibility.
I used one when I worked the interstate.
But I dont remember the model or make.
It had 7 little bubbles mounted on top of a triangle shaped bottom.
On a clear night, I can see the other deputies emergency lights at least 10 miles away.
But it isnt flat here LOL
The only people using them in my area are the state police. Almost everyone is using LED now.

NYPD uses the V shape. They're LED (except for the white lights).

That was just one brand of lightbar, not all of them switched to that configuration. About a third of the cars at my department have those, the rest LED's. As stated, the theory is that the V shape allowed more light to be seen at angles other than in front or behind the car.
