    UPS Packages Missing

I had ordered about $2,000 worth of electronics online about two months ago. It was shipped via UPS and the online tracking says it was delivered except I never got it. They sent over the delivery driver and asked me to sign some forms stating I did not receive the packages. While I spoke to the driver, he stated he handed the packages to someone to got out of a "Black Jeep". I do not own a black Jeep or any Jeep. I told him this and he quickly stated "well it might have been a dark SUV". The only SUV I own is a tan 4Runner. I pointed to the vehicle and asked "is this the vehicle?" and he said "no". Before he left he informed me someone from the security team would be in contact with me. A few days ago the security guy from UPS called and I told him the above information. He then said, "well you know how people are, they can't be too sure about colors of vehicles". Then he said that the driver said he saw me enter the house with the packages. Now this was two months ago and the driver makes hundreds of deliveries. The security guy basically wanted to throw out his previous statement regarding the dark SUV, but keep the statement of him saying he saw me enter the house with the packages. He then requested I file a police report stating "someone broke into my house and took the packages". I refused since this did not happen and I know filing a false police report is a federal crime. What can I do in this situation that's basically a he said, she said? Can UPS file a police report against me? What would happen then?

I would write a letter to corporate headquarters of UPS. I've driven up to a UPS driver who was about to deliver a package to my house and he asked me for ID since I was just getting out of my car. That's what this driver failed to do.

If they have a signature, they can see check to see that it wasn't yours. But I would definitely let someone higher up know that their security people requested you lie to the police. (It's not a federal crime, btw).

The packages didn't require a signature and I've never been asked for ID before. The security guy I've spoken to isn't for corporate headquarters but I guess for regional? His phone number is local. For some reason I always thought filing a false police report was a federal crime. Thanks for letting me know. Could UPS file a report against me saying I'm lying? Would the police search my house?

Hope you paid by credit card. If you did, you call your credit card company and say I never got. They stated it was delivered to me but they are unable to produce my signature as a delivery signatures. They will reverse the charge and th mehant has to fight it out with UPS, not you. As long as that signature is nothing like yours, you will get your money back.

I had ordered a very sensitive LE item and the shipper require a signature. I was sitting in my living room when I got an e-mail it was delivered I thought that was odd and went out and looked. No package, no UPS truck. Hmmm.....called UPS and they tell me the packag was "left by front door." I told them it wasn't. They had a signature that was definately not my name and not my handwriting. The driver of my route said he delivered it to MY hous nwas sur I signed. UPS jerked me around for two more days. I called the merchant who said he can go after UPS if I have the credit card company reverse the charge. I called them, reversed the charge and the merchant got paid by UPS. Well 4 months later I get the package. Appears it went to Main ROAD instead of Main STREET and the guy who signed for it set it under a table becuase he thought it was something his wife ordered and forgot about it, but when they realized it was there and read the label, they saw my address and brought it to me. Now that UPS driver swears he handed me the box, yet the route/driver who did deliver it was on the other side of town.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

The company I ordered it from already refunded me my money but now UPS is harassing me about it. Since signature wasn't required, it's pretty much a he said, she said situation. However the driver admitted to me he handed the packages to someone who got out of a black Jeep when I don't own such a vehicle nor do I have any friends who do. I'm afraid UPS is going to file a police report saying I stole the packages or something and the police come search my house to see if I have the products. Could that happen?

If you've been refunded the money, forget about it and tell UPS to stuff it. I seriously doubt anyone is going to search your house. Again, if they continue to harass you, write the corporate headquarters. UPS doesn't need bad publicity. But quit worrying about it and get on with your life.

Not really, but who really enjoys something searching through their house? I'm also very obsessive compulsive so people touching my stuff really upsets me.

Just think of all the dirty, slimy, rotten, disease infested, germ-laden hands that touch your mail, UPS packages, groceries, money, ATM machine buttons and a ton of other stuff I can't think of right now.

Forget it, it won't happen. Just let it all go. The beef is between the company you bought the stuff from and UPS. You got a refund, now stay out of it.

I am surprised that UPS would deliver goods that expensive w/o a signature. I've had to sign for a lot less expensive stuff.

I thought the beef would be between the company and UPS as well but they keep calling me. They rarely ask for a signature around here. I mean not that I live in an amazing neighborhood or anything. Maybe they're just too lazy to wait around for one. Thank you very much for the help. I was worried UPS could press charges saying I got the packages when I didn't.

UPS is trying to use you against the company you purchased it from.

Let it go. You don't have to talk to UPS about it ever again. If they call, hang up. If they come to your door, shut it.

I WISH UPS would require a signature where I live. They've dropped some expensive crap in front of my house on the porch. I've personally asked my UPS driver to NEVER leave anything in front of my house.... most of the time now he drops it over the fence... but I wish they'd just require me to sign... if I wasn't home I'd just drive to their station down the street and pick it up. Much less hassle than dealing with a stolen package.

It's the decision of the shipper, not UPS as to whether or not they get a signature. Whenever I've shipped anything via UPS or the USPS, they always ask me if I require a signature. If you insure the package for more than about 200 bucks with USPS, they won't leave a package without one. That's probably why the OP's company was willing to refund his money. I bet they start laying out the few bucks to the a signature in the future.
