How to return an ex boyfriend's stuff?

    Hello,

I need to return someone who I just broke up with a while back their stuff.
Some people told me to send a certified letter. Well,

    1. I don't have their address, because he's a consultant, and he works out of state and stays in a hotel.
    2. I'm worried if I email him asking for his address, he may ignore me.
    3. Where would I get a letter certified?
    4. I prefer to have his stuff picked up asap as I want to start getting over him, is there a limit on the notice, like can I just say 7 days?
    5. Could I email him instead of certified letter?

    6. If I decide to just toss it away without contacting him, do i get arrested? Or sued, or any trouble with the legal institutions?

    Thanks very much!

This is civil, not criminal, and is not a law enforcement matter. You should talk to an attorney to gauge your obligations under the law. Please note that while you will not be arrested for tossing his things, you MAY, however, be sued by him for doing so. That is why people certify letters and make attempts to return things that don't belong to them.

All depends on what it is.

I would box it up and ship off to his home address where he stays when he is not working; or mom/dad or his main work office address. Get a tracking number/signature from FedEx, UPS or the Post Office and move on.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

HI, thanks for the responses but I don't have ANY addresses of his, I'd have to contact him through email to get those but I'm worried if he doesn't respond?

    Thanks,

So... you are dating this guy seriously enough to have a lot of his stuff, but don't know where any of his family live, or where he is now?

I believe there are time frames on "abandoned property". Contact a local attorney and find out what the law says.

My 2 copper. Send him an email. If he ignores it, you still have that as evidence that you attempted to contact him. This won't give you free reign to dump his stuff, but it couldn't hurt.

I was serious with him before we broke up, but it was a long distance relationship, he is a consultant, and I know where he lives in my city but I can't leave his stuff there, someone could come take it... but he lives out of a hotel in the city where his project is, so I don't have an address for that, and we ended on bad terms and I don't know if he'll respond to my email, and I just have 4 books of his, 2 sweaters, and earphones, nothing major but I'd still like to avoid any legal hassle in the future that I could receive if I tossed it... so Just want to be on the safer side.

He's in the city where his project is now, and his parents live somewhere in another city, so I've never met them, and I don't know their contact or anything... I'm just so confused what to do... I could try sending a certified letter to the hotel he stays in but don't know if he'll get it, what if he's out of town from there too? he travels a lot..

You better get more infor about you date before you date them. How you can be "serious" with anyone and not have an address for them or know their parents first/last names (which you can use to get a an address via Verizon online) is ridiculous and dnagerous.

Call the hotel he stays at, ask if he is a registered guest and tell them you want to overnight a pacakge and ask if he will be checked out the next day. If he is there, send it. If not, send it certified to his local adress and move ot. Its the Post Offices responsibility to make sure they hand it to him. I am sure they are holding his mail or forwarding it for him.

Kudos to Joey and GoDirectly2Jail for patience! Thanks guys. I would have probably dropped it off at his current hotel.

    Your email to him:

    Dear John,
I have some your items that I'd like to return to you via mail, but don't have a mailing address. Could you please provide me with an address to mail your property to? If I don't hear from you within 3 months time frame, I am going to assume that you are abandoning said property, and will dispose of it properly. Thank you.

    From,
    judgesahiba

Who cares if he doesn't respond to your email, then you toss it.
