Would you pass the polygraph? Many departments won't even start the background until the applicant passes the polygraph.
You will also have to deal with competition. You will be up against any number of qualified applicants who don't have any baggage. That big "?" in your background may turn a lot of agencies off.
If you didn't commit the crime and the DA dropped it because they were convinced of your innocence, then maybe you should consult an attorney about having this charge expunged from your record.

Tell whoever you apply to about it and they will determine the merit of your story. Even if you gave us all the details, we couldn't tell you for sure either way. It's always a judgement call by the hiring agency.
