I did mean state government. You're right its probably not a big issue, but hey, some politicians pander to the small organizations.
See how they treat the NRA. They are one of the strongest groups of lobbyists in the country - backed by case law and good, constitutional attorneys. If your politicians don't listen to them and play ball, I highly doubt they'll cater to the small group that has a tangential interest.
Politicians look at groups like the NRA and think one-dimensionally: VOTES
Whether it's for, or against them (the politicians that is), statistically NRA voters get out and cast ballots in pretty large numbers.
