    Peace Officer?

    Hello all,

I'm in college and considering a career in law enforcement/criminal justice. I have 8 years military exp, etc. I was wondering what all does a peace officer do? I was considering going through a summer course to obtain my peace officer cert, but was wondering what exactly does/can a peace officer do. just looking for a way to get my foot in the door, thanks in advance!

How about doing a ride along at a local police department and finding out in person?
Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

For some reason, your opening statement leads me to think thou art making something up. Especially since your content question is that of an elementary school level.

If you have to ask what a peace officer does, you are not qualified to be one!

    A few questions:

    1) how old are you now?
    2) when did you serve in the military, and how old were you then?

If you're in your late 20's or early 30's and you have to ask what a "peace officer," does, as "PapaBear," stated: "you are not qualified to be one!"

I've been on the streets for about 6 weeks. I've apprehended agg robbers/home invaders at gun point, driven fast through town, done a ton of traffic stops, respond to calls from parents that want me to raise their child for them, found a lost puppy, wrote a report, or...fifty, did some more training, searched some buildings, did more reports, got lost, did pushups, did more reports, dusted for prints, swabbed for DNA, arrested wife beaters, solved problems, counseled marriages, blocked traffic, worked wrecks, got complained on, and learned a ton about people.

It's been a great six weeks and I'm looking forward to more.

I went on ride alongs, but you I had no idea what I was in for until I actually started doing it.

Good luck whichever way you. Also, thank you for your service.

"Peace Officer" means different things depending on the state. There is no such thing in Virginia, though we do have "Conservators of the Peace".

What all does a peace officer do? It's our job to solve in ten minutes what it has taken these people their entire lives to screw up. Small children know what the police do. When I got out of the service, I knew what the police did.

This question isn't part of a 1st grade project is it?

    oh no? why so sure?

I thought it was a legit question. I've never considered being a police officer, and thought the peace officer summer course would get me a cert and then open a door into this career field.

Heh, heh - avoidance and redirection, classic deception indicators!

I agree with the others, you were no soldier.

    Dear Mr. Maldonado,

In my humble experiences, perception toward Law Enforcement officers ultimately has to due with environment. We are payed very humbly to sniff through BS and call it when we see it.

As stated by your original response, you may seek to actually go on a "ride-a-long" with a local agency instead of taking a "lackadaisical" approach toward learning what it is that LEO's do.

If I am on the mark, I believe you and I to be somewhat "Co-Inhabitants" in our environment. I would hope that maybe you take some English/Grammar courses along with that Criminal Justice degree. Especially if you are to attempt to make it on as a hire with my employer.

I have seen enough people come in, only to go out from their own stupid decisions and choices. These persons had very similar attitudes that you have displayed on here. This job is very "Sink or Swim" and you may want to ask yourself, which will you do.

Welcome to the forums, perhaps a few read overs of the forum "sticky"'s are in order.
