From the Sticky Thread at the top:
    Some friendly advice:

Keep in mind, none of the LEO's in this section are obligated to answer your question(s), as they do so voluntarily. If the time is taken to reply, you may or may not be happy with the answer.

There is a wide range of law enforcement personnel on RP, ranging from Municipal, County, State and Federal agencies, therefore, replies may vary. In the end, you should always seek the advice of the agency you are applying for, or contact an attorney in any legal issue.

Lastly, respect works both ways, if you show it, you should receive it on the other hand, if you don't like the answer you receive, and decide to openly criticize the LEO(s) who furnished the information, you will jeopardize your posting privileges on the forum.

This section is intended to help those with sincere questions, but it will by no means be a place to bash, criticize, or abuse LEO's who go out of their way to help answer your question(s).

With that said, you came here looking for free advice - you don't get to pick and choose what you get.

If you take txinvestigator1 up on his offer, then, AND ONLY THEN, do you get to be selective.

Yep, he/she can always fire Tex if he/she does not like Tex's advice.

Additionally, if I was reading a book that indicated a cop thought popcorn going off in the microwave was a gunshot; I would put it down in disgust. If an author is going to write something, it should be believable, especially a police story.

Waiting for back-up or rushing in to press the threat depends on so many variables that it cannot and will not be answered in this forum.

I will add this for the OP, though; free of charge. In most scenarios where personal safety is in jeopardy; if you survived, you are a hero. The hero will be overtly praised.

If you died, you were stupid. The stupid comments are covertly hushed and carefully chosen for time, place and audience.

    How come you're always punting???

IMO, this particular set of circumstances would be best handled by a double reverse (and the firing of the OP for lack of leadership, vision, and common sense)...

Trying to help the poor guy out. Punting is a sign of surrender. Offenses punt because they have been defeated by the defense. He will not admit his story line is not possible. He insists he has done his research. I'm surprised he did not mention the cop was listening to a CD while in the patrol car!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he is a writer (self-employed) because he could not work for anyone that tried to correct him or help him!

    Be Safe.

Is punctuation up for debate as well? I don't know how you guys do it in New York City, but we start our sentences here with capital letters ;-)

If I went charging into a house based on my thinking that there was gunfire inside, thus making it an exigent circumstance to just plow in and save the day, I'd have a hell of a time at the suppression hearing explaining how I thought popcorn popping was gunfire. I might be brought in for some free psych testing.

Not to mention opening my locker the next day and having a ton of popped Orville Redenbacher come pouring out.

But straight up, none of us work for you. You aren't our professor and this isn't an assignment. You may have had a "very specific question about procedure", but even that was kinda tarded. One, there is no procedure for kicking in a door guns a blazin' for popping popcorn. Two, backup might not be close enough to respond in the time you are working with. Three, I don't think you book will get past the self-published e-book part. But hey, it will make a great stocking stuffer come the holidays.

OTOH, there could be exigency if the popcorn was burning or about to be burned...

There were no two-way sets, however, the system proved effective in that it eliminated minutes in having a unit proceed to the scene of a serious offense
    So about that research...?

I can't wait to read something from a writer that is so lazy, he/she can't capitalize their "I"'s.

Nice red bar you got there. As a writer that is looking for some criticism, you sure don't like it when you get it.
