Is bartending gonna keep me out of LE?

I'm a bartender and I really love it but I want to be in law enforcement one day. My uncle is in LE and tells me I should quit the bartending, but he's really not happy with ANYTHING I do so I'm looking for other opinions. To be honest, I DO drink since it is part of the job but I never drink and drive or get stupid drunk. When I first started bartending I made a dumb mistake and served booze to some underage friends a few times. Only was caught once but no charges were filed. Do you think I should quit bartending or is it ok as long as I don't serve alcohol to minors anymore?

EDIT: by "getting caught" I meant my boss found out, but he let it slide

Being a bartender in and of itself would not keep you out of Law Enforcement, provided that there is nothing "shady" about where you work and you are not breaking the law.

I have some questions though, about your drinking...

The job of a bartender is to serve alcohol to others, not to consume it yourself. So saying that you drink because it's "part of the job" seems a bit disingenuous to me.

How many do you drink on a given night at work?

It's kind of a go with the flow thing. Depends on what mood I am in that night. Sometimes I have a few drinks throughout the night to keep the energy up and relate (?) better to the patrons. It's not a requirement to drink on the job, but I have yet to meet a bartender who stays completely sober all night. I'd say I have about 5 to 6 "full" drinks a night, but spread out in smaller doses. A lot of it I spit.

    Why don't you swallow?

Five to six drinks over how many hours of work?

I consume (swallow) the equivalent of about 5 to 6 drinks in a 4- to 6-h shift. We always do shots with the customers to make em happy (and spend more money), but I only swallow it if a) it's sh*t I like, lol, and b) I feel like I can still handle it. Part of those 5 to 6 drinks is also tasting my own mixes and trainees' mixes.

Glad you have a sense of humor . You have to have one around here with these good people.

Everyone comes from some job. Just keep it legal.

I don't know how big of a gal you are, but one mixed drink per hour concerns me that you are legally intoxicated when you leave work!

How do you get to and from work?

5-6 "standard" drinks in 4 hours puts you over the limit, no question.

Exactly. I've known several cops who bartended in college, but don't know one who bartended at a strip club and also "dance only when it's slow." Catch my drift.

You're obviously not a bartender in Oregon. Drinking on the job here will cause you to lose your server's license in a heartbeat. Which is why I question "it's part of the job". You could easily drink a soft drink instead of an alcoholic one.

I met a detective that was a Budweiser girl back in her college days. She would dress in skimpy outfits and serve drinks at bars and clubs.

I dont mean to brag but I was a male model for Abercrombie and Fitch and use to stand shirtless in the mall stores...
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.
