    Police apparel questions

I have 2 questions on what these things are called that I saw online:

1.) What is this gold thing called that this officer is wearing on his shirt?

2.) And the white cross strap this cop here:

The "gold thing" is a ribbon or ribbons used to denote an award of some kind.

I think he is referring to the gold chain coming off their right shoulder.

My department doesn't use them so I don't. I thought they were attached to a whistle or key at the other end.

There is a common opinion among some police officers that the more metal pins you have on your shirt, the cooler you are.

The white cross thing is just a reflector harness for directing traffic. It's just to make him more visible to drivers. The picture looks fairly recent, judging by the style of lapel mic, but the harness looks older.

What I want to know is why he is wearing the garrison belt on top of the 2 inch Sam Browne belt...?

My department doesn't use them either, but I do. Mine is silver, runs from my right lapel into my pocket. It's attached to a whistle. As retard as my partner first thought it was...it works.

The silver/white cords around the right shoulder of the two officers are lanyards.

The white cross stap device is a flag bearer's harness.
